You can get the most out of your display ad design by using images, videos, design principles, and other media elements to help further improve your message.

What is a display ad? Display advertising is the process of advertising a product/service through visuals (graphics or text) within a website or with social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter. 

Banners are used as display ads and they come in all different sizes. Before you start creating your display ads, there are optimal size specifications you need to adhere to. Different platforms have different requirements. Here are some of the size specifications for each platform.

Facebook Ads

Facebook Feed Ads 

  • Recommended Image Size: 1200x628px

  • Image File type: .jpg or .png

Facebook Banner Ads

  • For Computers: 820x312px

  • For Mobile phones: 640x360px

Instagram Ads

Instagram Image Ads 

  • Recommended Image Size: 1080x1080px

Instagram Video Ads

  • Minimum Resolution: 600x600px

  • Maximum Resolution: 1080x1080px

  • Aspect Ratio: 1:1 (square) or 1.9:1 (landscape)

  • Minimum Length: 3 secs

  • Maximum Length: 60 seconds

  • Maximum Size: 4GB

  • File type: .mp4 container

Instagram Stories Ads

  • Format: Full screen vertical (9:16)

  • Recommended Resolution: 1080x1920px

  • Minimum Resolution: 600x1067px

  • Length: 5 secs

Instagram Stories Video Ads

  • Format: Full screen vertical ad (9:16)

  • Recommended Resolution: 1080x1920px

  • Minimum Resolution: 600x1067px

  • File Type: .mp4 or .mov

Twitter Ads

  • Tweet Copy: 280 characters

Twitter Image Ads 

  • Minimum width: 600px (1200px will be better optimized for when people click to expand image)

  • Any height is acceptable. If height exceeds width, it will be cropped to 16:9 aspect ratio.  

Twitter Video Ads

  • Video Size: 1200x1200px

  • File Size: 1GB Max

  • File Type: .mp4 or .mov

  • Aspect Ratio: 1:1 (recommended)

Google Display Ads

  • Leaderboard: 728x90px

  • Large Rectangle: 336x280px

  • Medium Rectangle: 300x250px

  • Half Page: 300x60px
